MISSION:
To provide legal expertise with a purpose. The Law Office of Dr. Jacque Phillips promotes justice in education. U. S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, listed “following the law” as one of the U. S. Department of Education’s top goals. Jacque’s goals include:
1. Training school districts so they know what is legal and what is not. This leads to less time spent on legal matters and more time spent teaching students.
2. Ensuring students receiving special education services are not denied enrollment in charter schools due to illegal quotas.
3. Giving presentations at national conferences to overview the legal system as it applies to students.
4. Supporting students at expulsion hearings that result from unfair zero tolerance policies.
5. Addressing issues of overrepresentation of students of color and from low income environments in the juvenile justice system.
6. Conducting teacher training in international schools to promote inclusion.
7. Empowering parents so they know what is legal and what is not.
In addition to taking private clients, Dr. Jacque Phillips is available to conduct workshops and presentations on a variety of special education and general education topics. Jacque combines her teaching experience with a law degree to help schools avoid legal issues. Her current emphasis is on Special Education Litigation Prevention. She combines parent advocacy with teacher training to eliminate adversarial encounters between parents and schools. Her experience as an educator and her knowledge of special education law make her an asset to parents and schools.
